TOKYO (April 7) – A trio of reigning junior world champions rolled to victory at the Junior Queens Cup wrestling tournament with 51kg winner Mareka Shidochi of Shigakkan University being named the tourney’s outstanding wrestler.
Shidochi, who also finished fifth at the 2011 senior world championships, defeated All-Japan champion Yu Miyahara at Komazawa Gymnasium for her second straight JQC crown.
Junior world champ at 55kg Kanako Murata notched a technical fall for her second title, while Shigakkan high school student Sara Dosho repeated as champ at 67kg.
At 48kg, Yuki Irie, runner-up at the prestigious Yarygin International in January, edged All-Japan silver medalist Eri Tosaka.
The JQC tourney results and those from the junior national championships, April 21-22, will help decide the women’s squad for this fall’s junior world championships in Thailand.
