OSAKA (August 25) – Yuki Irie pinned world team member Eri Tosaka in the semifinals and went on to repeat as 48kg champion in the women's freestyle competition at the national collegiate wrestling open championships.
Along with Irie of Kyushu Kyoritsu University, Chiho Hamada of Nippon Sports Sciences University defended her 55kg open title while Chiaki Iijima of Nihon University took the 72kg for a second open title and her first crown in three years.
Iijima, a 2010 Asia champion, defeated Shigakkan University's Ayaka Sato in the 72kg final and denied Sato a fourth straight open title. Iijima gave Nihon University its second champion of the tourney after Chihiro Hashimoto captured the 67kg crown.
