NEW YORK (November 9-10) – Asian Games silver medalist Tsukasa Tsurumaki won the 84kg greco-roman crown and three women added titles in women's freestyle at the New York Holiday International wrestling tournament.
In the greco-roman finals, Tsurumaki of the Japan Self Defense Forces team bounced back after dropping the first period, 0-6, to Jordan Holm (USA) to win 1-0, 2-0 and claim his first international title.
In women's freestyle, Hiroe Suzuki edged 67kg world champion Adeline Gray, 2-0 (1-0, 1-1) on her way to the 72kg crown and joined Yuki Ikegame (55kg) and Chiaki Iijima (67kg) at the top of the medals podium.
In men's freestyle, Yosuke Kawano, also of the Japan SDF, was the only Japanese wrestler to finish on the podium, taking a silver medal at 55kg behind 18-year-old Azamat Tuskaev (RUS), 2-0 (2-0, 5-0).
