KIMURA LEADS NSSU TO TEAM TITLE IN COLLEGIATE GRECO C’SHIPS

TOKYO (October 17-18) – Hiroki KIMURA notched four wins by technical fall to win the 55kg title at the collegiate greco-roman national championships, leading the Nippon Sports Sciences University (NSSU) to a two-point triumph over Waseda University for the team title.

KIMURA, the NSSU co-captain, came from behind in the second period to defeat Yuki UCHIYAMA of Yamanashi Gakuin (YGU) in the 55kg final to add the greco student nationals crown to the collegiate open title he won in August.

KIMURA, the only wrestler to double up on the student titles in greco-roman this year, was named the outstanding wrestler of the tourney at Komazawa Gymnasium in Tokyo.

Shinobu OTA was the only other NSSU wrestler to reach the top of the medals podium at Komazawa Gymnasium, defeating YGU’s Ryuji AMEMIYA for the 60kg crown.

Team runner-up Waseda University crowned three champions, including world team member Shori MAEKAWA at 120kg.

Collegiate open bronze medalist So SAKABE of Kanagawa University upset open winner Takaharu NAKAMURA (NSSU) in the 74kg final to become the school’s third student champion.

Taketo YOKOI of Chukyo Gakuin in Gifu rolled to the 96kg crown to become that school’s first-ever collegiate wrestling national champion.
