HUMENNE, Slovakia (July 19) – Mito middle school student Daigo HATTORI rolled up four wins against one loss in his international debut to grab a bronze medal at the Cadet Wrestling World Championships on the first day of boys’ freestyle competition.
Hattori unleashed a confusing lower level double-leg attack on his 42kg opponents, scoring a pair of falls and three decisions on points while narrowly missing the technical fall against Intigam VALIZADA (AZE), 12-3, in the bronze medal final.
Two Asian cadet champions, Takuto OTOGURO and Takashi ISHIGURO, each won their opening bouts at 50kg and 85kg, respectively, but lost their second bouts and did not get a chance to wrestle in the consolation brackets.
Hiromu SAKAKI also scored fall in his international debut but did not advance beyond the quarterfinals at 65kg and Asian cadet silver medalist Tsuyoshi NAKAMURA was tripped up in his first bout at 69kg.
